Cosmic Power Of A Sales Genie

The Disney movie Aladdin was my favorite movie as a kid. 

I drove my mom bonkers watching it on repeat. I had Aladdin sheets, posters, toys, I even got an Aladdin tattoo when I turned 6. (I didn’t do that)

Anyhooooo. There’s a scene where Genie describes his “INFINITE COSMIC POWER” with an itty bitty living space, referencing the fact that he lives in a lamp. 

That’s what we’re gonna riff on today.

The internet is HUGE, and full of opportunities. I start laughing if I sit and think how much money you can make online, without much effort at all. (Infinite cosmic power)

But, even if you have an original idea…You get about a week before the “me too” competitors flood the market. (Itty bitty living space)

This is especially true in SaaS niches (where most of my clients operate)

Because buyers have so many options to choose from, it makes their decisions tougher. Hell, I spent 30 minutes yesterday comparing calendar apps. They all had the same features, more or less. So…Which one did I choose?

The one that scratched the “emotional itch”. That’s how people buy, whether they realize it or not. 

Even a “bland” market, where decisions are based on “cold, logical outcomes”, is rooted in emotions. 

Whether it’s cutting costs, improving productivity, reducing waste…Speaking to what I call your markets “core emotional driver” helps give them Inner Clarity, which builds a bridge from the market to your product.

Today we’re talking about the first of three types of clarity that buyers need. If you want the ability to sell screen doors on a submarine, or anything else for that matter, then this is for you. 

Of course, we’re talking about INTERNAL clarity. 

Internal clarity has many aspects, enough to fill several books. It’s taken me well over a decade to reach the level I am at and we’re going to touch on just one aspect that can help you achieve the rank of Level 99 Supreme Sales Emperor of the Multi-verse in no time at all! 

That may sound like an exaggeration, and let me assure you, it is.

However… As you are about to see, the selling power of this simple little sales device can do incredible things for your lead gen, conversions, up-sells, cross-sells, and so forth.

The almost-too-easy thing you can do, right now, to help improve your buyers inner clarity, is to show them what it looks like to WIN by using your product or service. What’s the best outcome they can hope for? 

A large part of our life focuses on our internal world, so it makes complete sense to start there.

If you ignore it, it has the opposite effect.

Without giving your customers a taste of how it feels to win by using your product, they never associate your product with their success. Instead of feeling hope and aspiration, people feel apathy. 

That’s it really. There’s not much to it. Your customers have a problem. Show them how you can help them win. Give them inner clarity. Need help with that?

Don’t Be A Dork

One of the best ways to kill your business is to sound like a know-it-all dork.

No offense to the dorks, my mother was a dork. That makes me half-dork.

Regardless. I’m talking about boring people. When your sales message drones on and on trying to sound smart… 

People go numb. 

They leave your website and forget about you. Your business crumbles, spouse leaves. The goldfish runs off with your heirloom silverware. Your socks get wet. Aliens abduct your grandma. Nobody comes to your birthday party.

That’s a bit extreme, but you get the point. When your sales message relies only on logic, it kills the sale.

The marketing giant David Ogilvy often said “People buy with their hearts more than their minds, even when they justify with logic” and that’s very true.

Any problem you can imagine has what I call a “core emotional driver”, this is the main emotion that influences your decisions.

Example. 

Lots of people would say cloud storage is not “emotional”. You’re saving files on the cloud. What emotions could there be?

Glad you asked.

Security – Wanting to know files are safe 

Connection – Wanting to share files with family

Freedom – Files are easy to access

Frustration / Relief – Your device keeps running out of storage

There are dozens more. And each emotion can be used to show your prospect that you understand the core emotions they feel… When you do, they like you and trust you, because you “get” them. 

It gives them Inner Clarity.

Why Your Customers Don’t Feel Their Problems, And How To Force Them To

As my grandpa used to tell me…

“You can lead a dead horse to water, but you can’t make him drink a barrel of fish”

Or something like that, I don’t know. I wasn’t listening, lol.

But I should have listened though, because he was correct. 

Selling online is a lot like making horses drink water. Just like the ol’ cow pokes wrangling little doggies, we spend a lot of time convincing “stubborn animals” to do what’s in their best interest. 

i.e, solve their problems.

Most of the time, they don’t want to, not at first. And no amount of convincing will make someone buy something they don’t want. 

In fact, if you want to double or even triple your sales, then you should stop trying to convince people of anything at all.

Instead, just connect with them, dude. It’s really that simple.

It’s easy to get caught in the trap of telling people all the reasons why they should buy from you, or trying to sound smart. 

The problem is…when you neglect to show how a problem impacts daily life, most people think “it’s not that bad”, and carry on with their business. This creates lazy customers who have no reason to buy anything from you. 

Instead, connect to what I call, the “core emotional drive” of their problem.

Whatever the “main” emotion is, the nagging thought that caused them to seek out a problem in the first place..

Speak to that. The human. The rising ape meeting the falling angel. Full of blood and guts, love and hate, failure and victory, pee pee and poo poo. 

When you help something *feel* their problem, you don’t need to convince them of anything. They’ll practically beg to buy everything you got for sale.

No connection = no sales
